SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. -- The Jefferson County Board of Education has appointed Mary Beth Group as the new principal of Jefferson High School (JHS).
The lifelong Jefferson County resident is a familiar face in the JHS community, having graduated from the school herself and spent the last seven years serving as the school's Assistant Principal. Group said she understands the significance of the job and will work to honor the history of the school and community.
"JHS is rooted in a long history and is a place of importance to many, including myself," she said. "I will work hard to build new relationships to help lead our students, staff, and community to success."
Group said that relationship building requires a lot of listening and collaboration.
"I want to hear and reflect before I make decisions," she said.
Group earned her bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education Mathematics from Shepherd University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from WVU. She was named to “Shepherd University’s Finest Under 40” in 2020.
Group began her teaching career as a math teacher at Shepherdstown Middle School and served as the Administrator of the Martin Robison Delany Opportunity Learning Center (OLCS), and the At-Risk Coordinator for Jefferson County Schools before returning to JHS.
