Jefferson County Schools recently welcomed members of Leadership Jefferson for a day of discovery and engagement, allowing local leaders to gain a deeper understanding of the district's educational programs and initiatives. Organized by the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Jefferson connects community leaders with local initiatives to inspire projects that strengthen the community. JCS Teacher of the Year Katie Madrid organized and led the visit to highlight the innovative programs and dedicated teachers that help shape the future of JCS students.
“This was a chance to showcase the incredible work happening in our schools,” said Ms. Madrid, who teaches music at Wright Denny Intermediate School (WDIS). “It’s inspiring to see so many passionate educators and talented students working together to create meaningful learning experiences.”
Throughout the day, the group visited schools across the district to observe classrooms and meet the people behind the programs. At Jefferson High School, they explored Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways like MedEd, ProStart, Agriculture, and ROTC, where students demonstrated their skills in hands-on activities.
Leadership Jefferson members also engaged in thoughtful conversations with JCS educators, participated in a teacher panel, and enjoyed a lively student performance by the WDIS Orff Percussion Ensemble, led by Ms. Madrid. The visit offered a comprehensive view of the dedication and creativity driving success across Jefferson County Schools.
“This wasn’t just about seeing what our schools offer—it was about building connections between our educators and the broader community,” Ms. Madrid shared. “When we come together to support education, we create opportunities that benefit everyone.”
The experience offered participants a firsthand look at the dedication and innovation within Jefferson County Schools, highlighting the potential for meaningful collaboration between education and the broader community. To view additional photos from this impactful event, visit us on Facebook!
