MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- More than two dozen choral students at the middle and high school levels represented Jefferson County Schools at the 2024 West Virginia American Choral Directors All-State Choir Conference. The 31 attendees from Washington High School (WHS), Charles Town Middle (CTMS), Harpers Ferry Middle (HFMS), Shepherdstown Middle (SMS), and Wildwood Middle Schools (WMS) comprised the largest group of JCS students to ever be accepted into the annual All-State Honor Choir. This year also marked the first occasion members of all four JCS middle school choirs received an invitation to join the prestigious choral group.
Attendees advanced to the statewide conference in Morgantown following a rigorous audition process in October 2023. During the three-day event, they received instruction from nationally recognized conductors and committed to several hours of daily rehearsal time. The conference culminated on Saturday, February 3, with a concert by all statewide attendees.
WHS choir director Ken Cooper congratulated all participating students and thanked the JCS staff and parents who contributed to the trip's success.
"It was a wonderful learning experience for all students involved," he said.
