MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Jefferson County Schools (JCS) middle school students had an admirable showing at the annual West Virginia FFA Career Development Events on December 7. FFA teams from Charles Town Middle School (CTMS), Harpers Ferry Middle School (HFMS), and Wildwood Middle School fared well at the individual and team levels at the Morgantown-based competition.
JCS students took four of the top five spots in the individual competition. Monica Fernandes (HFMS) won first place, Julie Athey (HFMS) placed second, Madeline McDonald (HFMS) tied for fourth, and Hannah Storey (WMS) placed fifth. Abby Blue (WMS) placed ninth and Piper Stolipher (CTMS) placed 10th to finish in the top ten. And Anelise Fragomene (WMS) and Collin Engle (WMS) rounded out the top 20, placing 16th and 20th respectively.
All three schools also saw success at the team level. The HFMS Food Science Team took first place in the competition, with the CTMS Food Science Team finishing fourth. The CTMS 7th and 8th grade Agriscience Knowledge Team took third place, the WMS team placed fourth, and the HFMS team finished fifth.
