MedEd Students at MRI machine

RANSON, W.Va. -- JCS students enrolled in the MedEd program visited the Jefferson Medical Center and Family Medicine Circle in Ranson on November 14. Students had the opportunity to explore different departments, including radiology and x-ray, laboratory services, and patient care.

Washington High School junior Makenzie Madrid said the experience confirmed her love for the medical field.

"We were able to see a lot of stuff in the hospital," Ms. Madrid said. "In the labs, we were able to see authentic medical samples, and I was even able to take Mrs. Hughe's blood pressure and oxygen levels. It was a great experience, and I would 100% do it again."

Students are in the first semester of the program and will continue to visit WVU East facilities, building towards an internship during their senior year of high school. MedEd is a collaboration between The Education Alliance, Blue Ridge CTC, WVU Medicine, and Jefferson County Schools. Registration for the 2024-25 school year is now open for rising juniors and seniors. Visit www.jcswv.org/meded to learn more!
