Kindergarteners at North Jefferson Elementary School were feeling the love this Valentine's Day thanks to letters from across the country and around the world! Mrs. Nugent's kindergarten class is participating in a project called Hearts Around the World with the hope of receiving at least one Valentine from each of the fifty states. So far, they've received 84 letters and packages from 41 states, plus Canada, Kenya, Australia, Thailand, and Puerto Rico! Ms. Nugent says her students look forward to opening and reading their sweet messages each day as they continue the project through the end of this month. 💝

JANUARY 31, 2024: We would like to provide an update on an external threat reported this morning. Working with our partners in law enforcement, Jefferson County Schools has learned that no credible threat existed to the communities of North Jefferson Elementary School, T.A. Lowery Elementary School, Wildwood Middle School, or Jefferson High School. Upon being detained, law enforcement determined that the suspect in question was training for the U.S. armed forces while wearing a weight belt and did not threaten any of our school communities. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

Do you want to build a snowman? ☃ Sure, it feels like summer today, but let's rewind to our winter wonderland a week ago! Upon their return to school this week, kindergarteners at Page Jackson Elementary ventured outdoors to build snowmen as a tool for learning about 3D shapes and measurements. These snow friends may have been shortlived, but the hands-on math lesson is what counts!

Driswood Elementary School students are showing their love for good attendance with a special Valentine's Day-themed project! 💕 Beginning January 10 through February 14, every DES student receives a paper heart to sign for each day they come to school. Students then post the signed hearts outside their classroom door. By Valentine's Day, each cluster of hearts will connect from room to room, surrounding the DES hallways with a love for attending school! What a fun and creative way to demonstrate how Attendance Matters: All Day, Every Day! 😍 To learn more about this ongoing JCS attendance initiative, visit www.jcswv.org/attendance.
